McKinney-Vento Receives "Good Apple Award"
Cynthia Martinez, McKinney-Vento Liaison nominated her staff for the fall 2014 "Good Apple Award." The McKinney-Vento staff received the award at the Good Apple Awards held at North High. The staff goes above and beyond in assisting families in the program so that their children and youth can overcome obstacles and barriers to an education.
The staff provides excellent customer service to families, staff and community agencies so that services can be provided. It is through their dedication and support that we can offer our families hope while they are in transition.
The staff often adjusts their time and schedules to meet the needs of the families. This could be by doing home visits, providing transportation to conferences, assisting them with parent meetings or getting them the necessary items such as clothing, food and school supplies.
The best thing about this staff is that they work together as a team. Even though they are assigned to families they often step in to help each other when needed. The team often works under crisis mode to assist the families, but continues to do what they need to do to help the students be successful in school. All contacts are immediate and the staff does an awesome job in making sure that the students are identified and services are offered within 24 hours. Last year we provided services to over 2,700 students.
This team is AWESOME!
